Jessen Kelly, Ph.D.

Jessen Kelly is Associate Professor of Art and Art History at the University of Utah. She specializes in the visual and material culture of early modern Europe, with a particular emphasis on Netherlandish and English contexts. Before completing her dissertation at the University of California at Berkeley in 2011, she studied at New College of Florida and the University of Chicago. Her current project examines the visual culture of games of chance in the Northern Renaissance, and addresses the role of images in changing social and intellectual engagements with future time. Recent research interests include early prints and genre imagery, time and narrative in the pictorial arts, and concepts of evidence and representation in early modern legal discourse.
