Art History Scholarships

For the Art History Scholarship, you must be an Art History major with a GPA of 3.5 or higher and completed 9 credit hours of Art History courses. To apply, please go to the University of Utah's scholarships management site (button above), fill out the General Application and search for Art History Undergraduate Scholarships in the Opportunities panel. When in the Art History Scholarships opportunity, you need to provide a 250-word statement of academic interest and goals.

If you receive an award, you will be notified via your Umail. You can also check by logging back into the University of Utah scholarship management site. You must accept your award and submit thank you letters through the scholarship portal by May.

Studio Art Scholarships

The University of Utah's scholarships management site handles all scholarships. You can apply for all available departmental scholarships with one application. During the submission process, you will be required to upload your portfolio as a single PDF. The details for creating the PDF are listed below and on the application website.

After doing so, search through the Opportunities and apply to the Studio Art Scholarships. This is where you will be asked to upload your portfolio and answer a few additional questions.

Portfolio Instructions

You will need to create high-quality images for your portfolio PDF.

• Upload a single PDF file, maximum size cannot exceed 10 MB. (You may need to adjust your images in Photoshop before creating the PDF).
• Your portfolio should contain from 7 to 10 works.
• Post one work per page with a maximum of 2 images per page. For example, you might have a full view and then a detail on the same page. Use multiple pages if more views are necessary to understand the piece.
• Add a text description at the bottom of each page with the following information: Title, Dimensions, Medium, Date completed (the year is sufficient)
• If you are submitting videos or sound files, you must first upload them to a website such as Box, Google Drive, DropBox, OneDrive, Vimeo or YouTube. Once the file is hosted, please provide the URL in the PDF. You will also provide the URL when filling out the scholarship application.

If you do not feel confident taking quality photographs of your own work, we are happy to provide assistance in photographing and/or scanning your work for the scholarship application. We offer several workshops prior to the scholarship deadline on how to document your 2D and 3D works. Please refer to the Events Calendar at the start of the spring semester.

Grants and other opportunities

The University of Utah offers students numerous opportunities through grants and research initiatives to help fund your education.

• Sustainable Campus Initiative Fund (SCIF): The SCIF is the University of Utah's green grant program. Students from all disciplines and departments are invited to propose projects that enhance the sustainability of our campus and community.
• Bonderman Field Station at Rio Mesa: Funding opportunities for creative research through Undergraduate Fellowships up to $1,000 each; and the Young Scholar Grant Program, which offers multiple awards, up to $2,500 each. The University of Utah's Rio Mesa Center is an outdoor laboratory located along the Dolores River in southeastern Utah, eight miles upstream from its junction with the Colorado River. The mission of the center is to promote and inspire scholarly work, learning, and academic-community partnerships on a broad range of topics related to the Colorado Plateau ecosystems.
• Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP): The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program provides undergraduate students and faculty members the opportunity to work together on research or creative projects. UROP provides assistantships up to $1,200 for students who assist with a faculty members research or creative project, or who carry out a project on their own under the supervision of a faculty member.
• Office of Undergraduate Research Travel & Small Grants: Provides funding opportunities for each undergraduate student whose research requires travel or other support. Small grants up to $200, and travel grants up to $500 are considered monthly.
• Ivory Homes Capstone Initiative Fund: Offers University of Utah undergraduate students the opportunity to apply for support for their Capstone project to apply their skills on projects that engage their accumulated knowledge and sensibilities in collaboration with other undergraduate students and their faculty mentor.
• Graduate Student Travel Assistance: Applications for travel assistance are invited from currently enrolled University of Utah graduate students whose research or creative project has been accepted for presentation at a professional meeting. Award up to $400.
• Graduate Residency Fellowship at the Digital Matters Lab: This fellowship provides graduate students in the Humanities, Fine Arts, and Architecture+Planning an opportunity to work on a research project in Digital Studies, broadly defined, which challenge and extend their respective fields. The fellowship will consist of a semester-long residency, with the possibility to extend a second semester. Fellows receive a $10,000 per semester stipend to pursue their research, and tuition benefits.
• Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute Get Seeded Program: Need a seed grant to get your idea off the ground? Monthly Get Seeded events are student-run pitch events for aspiring student entrepreneurs.
• Fine Arts Fees (FAF) Grants: Any College of Fine Arts' student group registered with ASUU or SAC registered through the College of Fine Arts may apply for funding from the Fine Arts Fees Grants Funding Committee for student-driven, noncredit activities, up to $6,000 annually.
